El dibujo del mundo
El Dibujo del Mundo is an essay about drawings, words, architectures, and experiences of the architect Sverre Fehn that throws light on his view of the world. An unprecedented exercise in interpreting the Norwegian’s thinking through his works and his drawings. There is no single coordinate for explaining his universe, his drawings are permeable and mysterious at the same time, and they give clues to his intentions, showing the power of first intuitions, ideograms where architecture hides. They are presented as mental landscapes of imagination, explorations composed of fragments that put desires and ideas in contact with matter and nature.
The things that Fehn was interested in, beyond the discipline itself, are described, all present in his world and in his drawings: the journey where one reencounters things and oneself, the infinite presence of the horizon and nature, the mystery of things and their revelation. His drawings are so evocative as the author’s words and they unveil the secrets of the inner world surrounding his work.
The book is a reflection on the meaning that a drawing has for an architect. For Fehn it was sometimes a divertimento, a metaphor, a desire; or a calligraphy reducing the world – like words – to atavistic signs and symbols that return us to our origins. As always happens with art, the world is reconsidered for the first time.
Juan Domingo Santos.
